It is possible that your cat may have exhibited unusual behavior after being exposed to catnip, as catnip can have a stimulating effect on cats. However, this behavior is typically temporary and harmless. Cats may become more playful, energetic, or even more relaxed when exposed to catnip, but they are not going crazy. It is a natural reaction that some cats have to the herb. **

Cats are so crazy about catnip because it contains a compound called nepetalactone that triggers a response in their brains, causing them to exhibit behaviors such as rolling, rubbing, and playing. This compound stimulates their sensory receptors, creating a euphoric and stimulating effect on the cat. Not all cats are affected by catnip, as sensitivity to it is genetic and around 50-70% of cats are responsive to its effects. **

When cats are exposed to catnip, they may exhibit a range of behaviors such as rolling, rubbing, purring, and playful behavior. This is due to the active compound in catnip, called nepetalactone, which can mimic pheromones that trigger a response in cats. Not all cats are affected by catnip, as sensitivity to it is hereditary. The effects of catnip typically last for about 10-15 minutes, after which the cat will lose interest until the next exposure. **
